Rosenberger Solutions Support the Automotive Megatrends

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving

Assistance systems and autonomous driving are the megatrends with huge future growth potential. With its expertise in connector technology Rosenberger is helping shape present and future developments in driver assisted and autonomous driving.

Recognize Situations, Evaluate and Process Data Such vehicles rely on real-time actionable data which must be captured and processed in real-time. Distance meters and cameras installed in the rear-view mir ror, for example, continuously transmit data to the vehicle control units; sensors continuously transmit data to recognize traffic signs or obstacles in the road. External communication with other vehicles also takes place and information on the current traffic situation or warnings of accidents or dangers are exchanged. At the same time, the car is typically connected to a cloud or smartphone via further interfaces.

Receive and Transmit Data, without Latency, in Real-time The challenges for manufacturers of connector products and systems are therefore enormous. Their solutions must be perfectly shielded so as not to interfere with each other and to function reliably and error-free even under extreme conditions. In addition, vehicle manufacturers expect ever smaller, lighter and more efficient technology, with zero latency and guaranteed real-time transmission. Any time delay could prove fatal.

Infotainment

An average of ten kilometres of cable and hundreds of connectors are installed in a car - modern vehicles are turning into electronic ‘all-rounders’. While their primary purpose is still transportation they offer a great deal of technical luxury as well as many safety-related features and service innovations.

Vehicles are electronic Multi-talents Infotainment is no longer the exclusive preserve of luxury vehicles as it is now seen as indispensable in all vehicle categories. The car is multifunctional, serving as an ‘office’ and entertainment ‘center’ as well as providing an array of other functions and features including warning devices, navigation systems, bluetooth applications, driver assistance systems and WiFi. The amount of data transmitted has increased exponentially as has the need for faster transmission speeds, thereby presenting ever-growing challenges for connector manufacturers.

Rosenberger sets Standards in Data Transmission Here, Rosenberger scores highly with its long experience, competence and pure innovation. After all, the company was the first manufacturer to develop and deliver functional FAKRA connectors for standardized and high-frequency applications in vehicles. A milestone for the entire industry.

Hybrid & Electric Mobility

The future of our locomotion lies in electric and hybrid cars. Increasingly, the internal combustion engine is being replaced by technological progress which in turn has called for major innovation in the field of connector technology, for both hybrid and electric vehicles. At the same time, efficient and environmentally-friendly production methods are a top priority when it comes to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Many design and technical factors must be taken into account, not least in the area of engine and charging power. Here, electrical components have to be robust and as space-saving as possible while functioning safely under extreme voltages and currents. For Rosenberger, the product development goal is clear: maximum contact resistance, plus high power density coupled with excellent EMC performance properties.

Electro-mobility is proving to be an important growth market. Rosenberger as precision, high quality and safety have always been core competencies. Rosenberger’s extensive portfolio of high-voltage connectors has been developed especially for optimized power transmission in electric and hybrid vehicles. They meet customer requirements in terms of quality, reliability, performance, and price. The HV product line includes extremely compact connection solutions that can be operated over entire product lifetimes, up to 1000 V with continuous currents of up to 450 A.

Additional to our shielded product portfolio, we develeped and offers unshielded product series (HVU®) e.g. HVU®48, HVU®50, HVU®400. Current capacity range from 60 A, 87.5 A up to 340 A and a working voltage of 1000 V DC.

                      Agricultural & Construction Industry

The demand for high-speed data transmission in harsh environment applications is constantly rising. From trucks, construction equipment to agricultural applications, Rosenberger has responded to these requirements with the development of the a new power and data connector system. Designed for harsh conditions and standardized in cooperation with the AEF (Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation), this is the new high performance standard.

Agricultural Industry In today‘s agriculture, reliable connections between tractors and trailers, seed, fertiliser and harvesting machines are essential. The challenges are not only terrain and weather conditions but also requirements for sustainable systems and potential savings. This requires connections with high power and data performance, as well as intelligent and digital data transmission for programming, measurement, evaluation, monitoring and positioning.

Construction Industry - Earth Moving Equipment - Trucks and Trailers The connector system is the standardized solution within the AEF, but is also suitable for other areas of application, including construction machinery, earth moving equipment, trucks and trailers confronted with demanding environmental requirements.

                      Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs)

For sustainable, climate-friendly transport and less noise, small light electric vehicles (LEVs) are on the rise, especially in metropolitan areas. These expand and complement progressive forms of mobility.

Just right for the daily commute, for example: Take the e-bike from home to the station, then use the e-scooter to head for the office. Not only are LEVs resource-saving and quiet, they’re easy to operate and generally don’t require a driver's license. They’re also fun to drive in the fresh air.

To ensure that LEVs have sufficient power for acceleration and managing steep climbs, the batteries must be charged quickly, easily and safely when connecting to the power grid. Connection solutions from Rosenberger are purpose-designed to ensure this.
